Dallas, Texas (January 20, 2021) - Toyota Lexus Minority Owners Dealers Association (TLMODA) partnered with The Salvation Army on a Day of Service to help individuals and families who are struggling due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. On Friday, January 15, 2021, food box distribution, supported by Toyota and Salvation Army staff and volunteers, took place at Lost Pines Toyota in Bastrop, and dealerships in Cedar Park and Brownsville, Texas.
The Salvation Army has experienced heightened need in communities throughout Texas as the long-term effects of the ongoing pandemic impacts many families already struggling to make ends meet. Reduced wages or loss of employment has become a part of life to many and the decision on whether to pay outstanding bills or put food on the table is a reality to many. The food box distribution from TLMODA and The Salvation Army provided non-perishable food including pasta, rice, canned vegetables, soup, peanut butter, and snacks. Each family also received a bag of toys as the result of a donation by Mattel, and a $25 Walmart gift card.
“We are always thrilled to collaborate with community partners and businesses as we work to serve the needs of the community,” said Anthony Torres, Service Extension Representative with The Salvation Army. “This is the third time that the Toyota Lexus Minority Owners Dealers Association has partnered with The Salvation Army here in Bastrop in the last 12 months, and we are so appreciative of their practical support. The help given to those in need will help feed children and families who continue to struggle through the pandemic.”
This is the second large-scale food box distribution in multiple locations around the country supported by TLMODA and The Salvation Army.
“Last year, we partnered with The Salvation Army to create a National COVID-19 Day of Service to support families left vulnerable by the coronavirus pandemic. Since then, the demand for food has multiplied,” says TLMODA Board President Carlos Liriano. “We hope this collective effort by our TLMODA members helps feed families in our communities and provides some reprieve from the economic hardships they face on a daily basis.”
