Salvation Army Participates in Multi-Agency Distribution

Conway, SC – The Waccamaw VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) stepped up in an amazing way to man multi-agency distributions to those impacted by the widespread flooding across Horry County, South Carolina.  As impressive as the distribution effort was, the work leading up to it was even more so.

Staff and volunteers from Catholic Charities, Habitat for Humanity, Lowcountry Food Bank, United Way, Waccamaw Community Foundation and The Salvation Army collected, sorted, organized, and packed essential items to hand out to local residents in need.  Recipients could drive thru a multi-station line of aid collecting resources at each stop.

The first stop was a food box containing staples such as pasta, beans, canned vegetables, and snacks.  Moving down the line was bags of fresh fruit.   The next station offered clean-up kits which included items such as masks, bleach, detergent, and brushes.  The next stop recipient vehicles were loaded with cases of bottled water.  The final step offered baby supplies and personal hygiene kits. 

“The Salvation Army is proud to be a part of this community effort to minister to our neighbors,” said Major Angela Repass.  She, along with her husband David, lead The Salvation Army’s work throughout Horry County, not only in times of disaster but every day of the year.

•    Wednesday (10/3), 10:00 am-Noon
     Conway Recreation Center, 1515 Mill Pond Rd, Conway
•    Saturday (10/6), 10:00 am-Noon
     St. Michael Catholic Church, 572 Cypress Ave, Murrells Inlet

The community has supported its neighbors with donations and their time to make the distributions possible.   “We are so proud to be part of this community,” Repass said to the crowd of volunteers prior to a recent distribution.
