The Salvation Army’s Emergency Services Responding to 416 Fire in Durango, CO

Volunteers and staff will be onsite providing food, hydration and spiritual care to evacuees and first responders

Durango, CO (June 13, 2018) – At the request of the Office of Emergency Management, The Salvation Army Emergency Services will be deploying a mobile feeding unit shortly to help provide food and hydration services to the first responders and evacuees of the 416 Fire in Durango and La Plata County. The first feeding will be this evening at approximately 6.00 pm at Escalante Middle School on 141 Baker Ln, Durango, CO 81303.

This first team of responders is expected to remain on the ground through the weekend. The crew will be equipped to provide meals, snacks and hydration to the approximately one hundred individuals currently evacuated. Clean up kits will also be distributed to those in need. The Salvation Army will remain on standby and continue service if the firefighting efforts continue into the coming weeks.

The 416 Fire burning in southwestern Colorado continues to grow more than a week after it was first reported. The blaze has burned 23,378 acres as more than 900 firefighters work to battle it back. As of Tuesday morning, it is 15 percent contained.

Emergency Disaster Services is one of the many services provided by The Salvation Army. In an emergency, The Salvation Army’s first goal is to meet the basic needs of first responders and those affected by the emergency. The second goal is to assist with the recovery, which can last for years.
