Salvation Army Serving Law Enforcement During San Antonio Standoff
San Antonio, Texas (March. 9, 2018) – The Salvation Army San Antonio Area Command Emergency Disaster Services team has spent three days providing food, drinks and support to law enforcement agencies working the scene of a police standoff.
The Salvation Army deployed its mobile feeding unit to the scene in Northwest San Antonio on Wednesday afternoon where they began providing snacks, water, coffee and energy drinks to officers from agencies including the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, Texas Rangers and SWAT team members.
Officers and emergency management officials put in long hours at the scene and frequently expressed their appreciation for The Salvation Army’s presence citing the relief efforts as just what they needed to give them a boost to carry on their duties.
The Salvation Army went on to provide dinner as well as breakfast and lunch through Friday. The 26-hour standoff ended late Wednesday; however, The Salvation Army is expected to remain on site serving meals to investigators at least through lunch on Friday. Other agencies served by The Salvation Army include the FBI and ATF. San Antonio-based grocery chain H-E-B generously donated food, kitchen supplies and other items to The Salvation Army in support of the relief efforts.
As of Friday morning The Salvation Army has served 264 hot meals, 316 bottles of water, 120 bottles of Gatorade, 84 energy drinks and more than 900 snacks.
