Salvation Army organizing mass feeding for Baton Rouge following historic flood
Baton Rouge, LA. – The historic rainfall causing many areas across Southern Louisiana and parts of Mississippi to flood at record amounts has left hundreds of residents without homes. That means not only will those escaping the flood waters need a place to stay, but also food for the days and weeks to come.
The Salvation Army is playing vital role in making sure everyone that needs food will get it. Bill Feist, State Disaster Liaison for The Salvation Army, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi Division has organized agencies from Louisiana into a mass feeding task force to get the job done.
“By bringing these groups together we can share the mission of getting everyone fed and coordinate our efforts to do the most good,” said Feist.
Feist used this method during Hurricane Issac in Southwest Louisiana.
Currently, flood waters are still too high to get feeding trucks into the communities so the focus is on the shelters open across Baton Rouge. Once the waters do recede, Feist and the task force will take on mobile feeding as well.
“We want to try as best we can to be aware of where all the groups will be setting up to feed these folks,” said Feist. “We don’t want too many in one place so all those in need are covered across this wide area.”
