Salvation Army Prepared to Respond in the Face of Severe Weather
Louisville, KY (May 10, 2016) – As tornadoes and severe storms rip though Western Kentucky, The Salvation Army is on ground.
“We already have a canteen on the site of the first touchdown” and are actively assessing the damage and need for response, said Bo Sells, Emergency Disaster Service Director. All this as heavy winds, rain, and hail fall and the threat of additional tornadic activity looms.
The Salvation Army has a net of trained personnel and response vehicles designed for rapid and free-standing response in disaster areas. Canteens are mobile kitchen units capable of producing and serving more than a 1000 hot meals a day and even more snacks and drinks.
Because The Salvation Army has a long history of response in disaster situations – large and small – a well-defined response has been developed, coupled with meaningful partnerships with federal, state, and local emergency response agencies.
Trained, dedicated staff and volunteers are actively monitoring the weather across the Commonwealth, and are in regular communication with officials throughout the region.
