The Salvation Army of the Carolinas Closely Monitoring Tropical Storm Erika

Charlotte, NC (August 28, 2015) - As Tropical Storm Erika has moved across the eastern Caribbean, The Salvation Army of the Carolinas continues to monitor the storm closely and is preparing for potential impact along the Carolina coast. Salvation Army personnel throughout North and South Carolina are preparing canteens (mobile feeding units) if needed for deployment along impacted areas to provide hot meals, cold drinks, snacks, and emotional and spiritual care to people affected.

”We are monitoring the storm’s path and coordinating with Salvation Army personnel and emergency management officials across the Carolinas to make sure we are prepared for a rapid response to the storm as needed,” said Mike Patterson, Emergency Disaster Services Director for North and South Carolina.

In times of disaster, The Salvation Army of the Carolinas has 20 mobile kitchen unit canteens ready to respond throughout the two states.

The Salvation Army encourages all residents to review their family communication plan and build an emergency kit. Helpful information is available on The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services website or at www.ready.gov/hurricanes. The official 2015 South Carolina Hurricane Guide is available for download at www.scemd.org.  Individual and family preparedness information is also available at www.readync.org.
