Salvation Army increases support to first responders and evacuees
Big Bear Lake, Calif. (June 18, 2015) – As fires continue to burn in the San Bernardino Mountains, The Salvation Army has been active throughout the night serving first responders and Incident Command, and helping people evacuate from Camp de Benneville Pines.
The Salvation Army now has personnel circulating in areas impacted by the fires. The Army is handing out water bottles and Gatorade to first responders and evacuees. In addition, The Army also offers snacks throughout the day and night and hot coffee and rolls in the morning. More than 250 people have been assisted by The Salvation Army as of 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2015.
With centers in Big Bear, San Bernardino and Redlands, as well as throughout the Inland Empire, The Salvation Army is prepared to offer increased support as needed. The Salvation Army has two mobile units at centers nearby which will be deployed in the event that further support is required.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by these fires,” says Lt. Ben Jones of The Salvation Army’s Pine Summit Camp in Big Bear. “This is a tight community, and when a person’s home is threatened, we all feel it.”
