Denver, CO (October 14, 2013) – Reigning world champion boxer, "Mile High" MIKE ALVARADO, and his promoter Top Rank®, will donate one dollar ($1.00) from every ticket sold to his match on Saturday to The Salvation Army’s Colorado flood disaster relief fund. Alvarado, a Denver native, defends his World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight crown against No. 1 contender Ruslan "The Siberian Rocky" Provodinkov, Saturday, October 19, at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colo.
“We are so grateful,” said Salvation Army leader Lt. Colonel Dan Starrett of “Mile High” Mike’s generosity in his home state. “This support allows The Salvation Army to continue doing the most good for those impacted as they begin to rebuild their homes and their lives.”
"Colorado boxing fans have been so supportive of me throughout my entire career and I am only too happy to support the people of my state in their time of need. We all need to do our part," said Alvarado.
Top Rank®, Alvarado’s promoter, joins the boxing champion in helping The Salvation Army’s Colorado disaster relief effort. "I have a home in Colorado. I love this state. Top Rank was onboard the minute Mike brought it up to us. A great event to support a great cause," said Todd duBoef, Top Rank’s president.
The Salvation Army has been there for Colorado since the floods first poured, supporting first responders and evacuees across the Front Range with more than 80,000 meals and 260,000 drinks. Now entering the recovery phase, the organization prepares to continue providing disaster relief to those impacted over the next 3-5 years.
