Salvation Army Boots on the Ground - Silver and Sharp Fires
Sierra del Mar Division (August 9, 2013) - As the rapidly moving Silver fire continues to rage east and the Sharp fire grows in size, The Salvation Army has deployed six mobile hydration units to serve water, electrolyte drinks, coffee and snacks to first responders and those impacted by the fires.
The Salvation Army has dispatched one canteen (large mobile feeding unit), 3 trucks and 2 vans to cover the major areas impacted by the fires. With Salvation Army centers in San Bernardino, Riverside, Hemet, Coachella Valley and Victorville, The Salvation Army is prepared to offer increased support as needed.
Dozens of volunteers including short wave radio operators are on notice that they may be needed at any time should the situation become worse and evacuations increase.
“Along with hydration and food, spiritual comfort is our priority,” says Lt. Sean Kelsey of the Dick and Beverly Davis Salvation Army Corps Community Center in the Coachella Valley. “We appreciate all of our community volunteers and those who give so generously to help these impacted by the wildfires.”
