The Salvation Army Provides 10,000 Meals to Those Impacted in Black Forest Fire

Denver, CO (June 14, 2013 7:00 pm) – The Salvation Army has provided 10,000 meals and 15,000 drinks and energy bars to first responders, law enforcement and evacuees of the Black Forest Fire since its eruption Tuesday. Today, Emergency Disaster Services teams traveled to the burn zone to provide snacks and hydration to 100 firefighters.
Salvation Army disaster response personnel from Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, the Denver Metro area and Casper, WY are on site helping the following locations:

Elbert County Fairgrounds

· Evacuees from a nearby Boy Scout camp went home today after receiving food, hydration and emotional care from The Salvation Army since leaving camp Wednesday.
· Teams continue to provide for approximately 100 evacuees with large animals.

Fire Station #1

· The Casper Emergency Disaster Services team continues to feed local law enforcement.

Disaster Assistance Center

· The Salvation Army, along with multiple other organizations, is providing a wide range of additional assistance including emotional and spiritual care. This location is open to help evacuees between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm and is located at 1675 W Garden of the Gods Rd. in Colorado Springs.

The Salvation Army will also be feeding at the Emergency Operations Center, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, the Penrose Event Center and the Kit Carson Stables.
Monday, The Salvation Army will meet with various agencies to discuss plans for recovery efforts. The organization continues to provide recovery aid to those impacted by last summer’s devastating Waldo Canyon and High Park fires and plans to remain in all affected areas as long as needed.
