San Antonio Residents Receive Meals & Clean-Up Kits from The Salvation Army after Flooding
San Antonio, TX (May 29, 2013) - Staff from The Salvation Army San Antonio Area Command continue to provide service to residents of San Antonio after heavy weekend rain caused widespread flooding and power outages in the South of the city.
Since service began on Monday, The Salvation Army has provided 399 meals, 440 beverages, and 225 snacks to law enforcement personnel, families and individuals forced to evacuate their homes because of the rising water.
Today, The Salvation Army is again providing meals and refreshments from its Disaster Canteen (mobile kitchen) to residents and clean-up crews in addition to providing spiritual and emotional support.
Furthermore, The Salvation Army has distributed more than 50 flood clean-up kits as residents begin the process of clean-up and recovery. Each kit includes a bucket, gloves, mask, mop, brooms, sponges, garbage bags, bleach and other cleaning agents.
The Salvation Army in San Antonio is accepting donations (at the address below) of canned food, non-perishable items, and bottled water. However, we are not accepting clothing or household items at this time. The Salvation Army will continue serving those affected by the flooding in San Antonio as long as we are needed.
