Salvation Army Dispatches Disaster Team to Coble, TN
Nashville, TN (February 2, 2013) - The Salvation Army in Nashville has responded to two communities affected by the early morning storms and tornadoes that occurred on January 30th.
In the Ranchwood Mobile Home Park on Dickerson Pike in Nashville, Tennessee, The Salvation Army served over 50 hot lunches to many families on Wednesday, January 30th. Approximately 75% of the 35 residences in the park were damaged by the strong storm and 8 homes were completely uninhabitable. Many of the homes had trees through the roofs and walls, in addition to other types of damage.
Authorities confirmed an EF2 tornado that hit the town of Coble, TN located in Hickman County. Approximately 11 homes were reported completely uninhabitable and many others had severe damage. Yesterday, January 31st, The Salvation Army served over 100 survivors and volunteers by distributing work gloves, hats, hand sanitizer and hot hand warmers, as they worked through the tumbling temperatures. Today, Friday, February 1st, The Salvation Army Disaster Team will return to Coble, TN, and set up at the Coble Country Store where they will distribute bottled water, gator aid, garbage bags and bleach to residents.
In the Ranchwood community, a couple shared how they were suddenly awoken Wednesday morning when a tree collapsed through their roof and pinned them down in bed. Early responders were able to free them of the entrapment. Salvation Army employee, Kristen Gillespie, said, “After the shock of being trapped, the couple had very high spirits.”
The Salvation Army will continue to assess the storm damage in surrounding communities and provide assistance as needed.
