Salvation Army Deploys Feeding Unit On Mississippi Gulf Coast

The Salvation Army Mississippi Gulf Coast Area Command will be deploying our mobile kitchen, called our "canteen", to the shelter at West Harrison High School in Gulfport today. Salvation Army staff and volunteers will be providing lunch and dinner to the 66 clients currently taking shelter there. They will be prepared to provide meals to additional clients that may need it.

In addition to providing food and drinks, The Salvation Army is prepared to provide emotional and spiritual support those in need.

Because the Salvation Army is a national leader in Emergency Disaster Services, a network is already in place to provide additional support for those affected by Hurricane Isaac.

About The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church established in 1865, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination for 128 years in the United States. Nearly 29 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. About 82 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide. For more information, go to www.salvationarmyusa.org.
