Salvation Army Continues to Assist at Ponderosa Fire

Redding, CA (August 24, 2012) - - Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services personnel will focus on supporting families and individuals returning to their residence following days of evacuation due to the Ponderosa Fire.  The Salvation Army will deliver food boxes and cases of water to residents near the area of Shingletown.

Since the start of the wildfire, which has affected more than 28,000 acres of the Shasta and Tehama County region, The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team has responded by supporting evacuees, fire personnel and first-responders with food and hydration.  Clothing/household item vouchers have also been given to impacted individuals and families.  Currently, The Salvation Army has provided more than 1,500 snacks, 2,200 meals and 9,200 bottles of water and juice.

The Salvation Army is still accepting monetary donations for long term assistance.  Donors have the option to earmark the money to either the “Ponderosa Fire” or the Northern California Emergency Disaster Services general fund.  Donations to the Emergency Disaster Services general fund will be used for future disaster events in the region.  One hundred percent of any monetary gift contribution will go directly to the donor’s specified fund.

The Salvation Army asks individuals who want to support those affected by the Ponderosa Fire to visit www.reddingsalarmy.org or call the local Corps office at (530) 222-2207.  Donors may also contribute monetarily by mailing contributions to:
