Cleveland, TN (July 30, 2012) – Over one year after the deadly tornados that swept through the Tennessee Valley, The Salvation Army is still on the front-lines serving the unmet needs of storm survivors.

On Wednesday, August 1st, The Salvation Army will present a check of $58,700.00 to the Bradley County Schools for assistance serving the Michigan Avenue Elementary and Blue Springs Elementary Schools.  The $58,700.00 will be used for gymnasium equipment for the Michigan Avenue Elementary School; the gym was destroyed by the 2011 Tornados. The money will also be used for the replacement of classroom supplies and resources for 30 classroom for the Blue Springs Elementary School; the entire school was destroyed.

On Thursday, August 2nd, The Salvation Army will present a check of $84,150.00 at the ground breaking ceremony of a home being rebuilt located at 1405 Lee Street SE.  The check will be presented at the 11:00 AM ground breaking ceremony to the chair of the Bradley County Long Term Recovery Organization, Jim Pollier.

The Salvation Army began serving survivors immediately after the first tornado swept through the Southeast and continues to serve today!  Because The Salvation Army commits to spending 100% of the money raised for a disaster on that disaster, The Salvation Army is able to assist with long term recovery needs.  Though only $380,000.00 was raised locally, money poured into The Salvation Army’s territorial offices allowing the local Salvation Army to commit to $1.5 million dollars for the April 2011 Tornado Relief efforts.
