The Salvation Army Responding To Tornadic Activity in North Alabama

Huntsville, AL (March 2, 2012) The Salvation Army in Decatur, Florence, and Huntsville are responding to Tornado touchdowns in Limestone and Madison Counties in North Alabama.

A mobile feeding unit from Huntsville, AL has been deployed to serve disaster survivors in Meridianville, AL Two mobile feeding units from Decatur and Florence have responded to Athens, AL with food and hydration.

One unit in Athens is located at the Sheriff's Command Post, while the other unit is stationed at the Eagle Point Subdivision in Athens.

Emotional and spiritual care officers will also be available to provide support to residents now recovering from a second round of destruction in less than twelve months.

Additional units from Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi are on standby for severe weather response across the mid-south.

“Throughout the day on Friday The Salvation Army will be ready to respond as new pockets of need continue to present themselves,” stated Bill Feist, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army’s ALM Division.  “Our prayer is that this weather system will leave little impact, but we are prepared to respond as needed. The public has entrusted The Salvation Army with the resources to minister to communities in need.”

EDS personnel will be providing food, beverages, and emotional/spiritual care to storm survivors in North Alabama. Additional resources, such as clean-up kits, are being made available as needed in a number of areas.

Additionally, The Salvation Army is responding in other southern states.

EDS personnel are actively serving residents of several Tennessee Counties affected by Wednesday’s storms. Additional units are on standby throughout the state ready to respond as needed. 

The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services Warehouse and Command Center in Jackson is being utilized to manage the widespread response across Alabama.
