The Salvation Army Making Christmas Deliveries to Tornado Survivors in Alabama
Florence, AL (December 14, 2011) In support of the April Tornado Recovery in North Alabama, The Salvation Army will be providing Christmas cheer to over 2,500 children. On Wednesday, December 14, 2011, The Salvation Army will begin distributing food boxes, clothing, toys, and bikes to the less fortunate in the Shoals and to families still recovering from the devastating tornadoes of April 2011.
On Thursday, December 15, The Salvation Army of the Shoals will host a party for over 750 children from Hackleburg and Phil Campbell. Children will receive toys and clothing, while families will also receive food supplies. In addition, Santa Claus will make his long awaited 2011 debut.
“This region is reminded daily of the long road of recovery still ahead. Our desire is to provide a glimpse of hope for a brighter tomorrow and a sense of normalcy for at least a brief moment,” stated Major Donald Wilson of The Salvation Army in The Shoals.
Immediately following the storms, The Salvation Army responded throughout the States of Alabama and Mississippi area providing hot meals, hydration, and pastoral care to residents and first responders. Seven mobile feeding units and over 40 staff and volunteers have provided hot meals, snacks and emotional and spiritual care to area residents.
The Salvation Army is currently providing disaster recovery assistance at 9 locations in Alabama.
