Chattanooga Salvation Army Remains on Stand-By In Wake of Tropical Storm Lee
Chattanooga, TN (September 6, 2011) – Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Volunteers remain on stand-by as Tropical Storm Lee flood waters continue to rise. The Salvation Army served meals and snacks to evacuees at the Catoosa County, GA Red Cross Shelter last night. Red Cross shelters for evacuees in Catoosa County, GA and Bradley County, TN are now closed, but The Salvation Army’s mobile kitchen teams are ready to serve in the places of most need.
Today, Salvation Army volunteers are delivering flood kits to residents of the flooded Battlewood Apartments in Fort Oglethorpe, GA.
The Cleveland Salvation Army headquarters at 437 Inman Street suffered minor flood damage before nearly twenty volunteers arrived to move furniture and stack sandbags.
The Chattanooga Salvation Army is prepared to partner again with the Chattanooga Red Cross in feeding evacuees should the Brainerd Recreation Center be activated as a shelter. The Red Cross has placed the Brainerd Recreation Center on stand-by to open. At least, 32,000 homes in Hamilton County were affected by Tropical Storm Lee as it dropped eleven inches of rain on the area causing closed roads, falling trees and power outages.
