In Washington DC, Emergency Relief Given to Seniors Impacted by Hurricane Irene

Washington, DC (August 29, 2011) – The Salvation Army provided emergency help to families in the Fairlawn section of Southeast DC Sunday night who were left without power in the wake of Hurricane Irene.  The Office of Washington Mayor Vincent Gray requested The Salvation Army bring nutrition and hydration to homes around 18^th and T Streets, SE. Volunteers provided the residents, mostly seniors, with a meal consisting of a sandwich, chip, cookie and a bottle of water.

Across the Greater Washington, The Salvation Army is meeting the need by giving emergency relief help to those affected by natural or manmade disasters. Last night, volunteers prepared and distributed

• 60 sandwiches
• 60 bottles of water
• 100 snacks

The Salvation Army is already serving thousands living in along the East Coast region impacted by Hurricane Irene who are struggling through power outages, downed power lines and trees and localized flooding. 

Monetary donations are the most critical need as supplies and personnel are mobilized.
