The Salvation Army Serves Hurricane Irene Survivors in Maryland
Salisbury, MD (August 28, 2011) - The Salvation Army Incident Command have sent canteens to two local Fire Departments (325 Cypress St., and 310 W. Main St.) to serve National Guard, Firemen, Police, Resue Workers and volunteers as they deploy to areas around Salisbury helping those still displaced by Hurricane Irene.
Both locations have served over 60 people for both lunch and dinner. They will continue to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner in the days to come.
Other canteens from Beckley, Princeton and Annapolis have 21 volunteers feeding individuals and families throughout the Annapolis area. The Salvation Army is helping to feed over 600 people a day at three shelter located in Calvert County. Another shelter at the local hight school,291 Locus Ave., in Anne Arundel County is serving over 200 people a day.
The Incident Command Center is working with local authorities and Emergency Operation Centers conerning needs in their communities and is preparing to deploy additional canteens.
