Online Auction to Benefit The Salvation Army's Tornado Recovery Work

Florence, AL - In support of the recent tornado devastation in Northern Alabama, The Civil Wars have launched a special online auction at http://www.auctionforalabama.com/  from June 8-18 (items will go live at 10 PM ET). All proceeds will go to The Salvation Army Tornado Relief Fund.

The auction features limited edition items donated by The Civil Wars along with numerous other world-renowned musicians. Contributions include Adele, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Bon Iver, Brad Paisley, Bright Eyes, Carrie Underwood, Christina Perri, Drive By Truckers, Emmylou Harris, Flo Rida, George Strait, Hank Williams Sr., Brandi Carlile, James Vincent McMorrow, Jason Aldean, Jason Mraz, John Legend, Justin Townes Earle, Kelly Clarkson, Kobe Bryant, Lionel Richie, Lupe Fiasco, Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert, Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, Rascal Flatts, Roseanne Cash, Sade, Secondhand Serenade, Snoop Dogg, St. Vincent, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, The Secret Sisters, The Temper Trap, Train, Two Door Cinema Club, Tyrese Gibson, VH1, Whitney Houston, Wilco, Wiz Khalifa and Zac Brown.

In addition to raising funds through the auction, The Civil Wars performed at a special benefit concert at the Shoals Theater in Muscle Shoals, AL on May 25. The concert featured special guest appearances by Dylan LeBlanc and Doc Dailey & Magnolia Devil with 100% of the proceeds going directly toward tornado victims. All told, the benefit concert raised over $20,000.

John Paul White of The Civil Wars was inspired to action after witnessing the devastation first hand in his home of Florence, Alabama.

 In his own words, White comments, “The devastation around here can't be summed up very easily; not in words, pictures, or video. It's everywhere we look—the lines at the gas pumps, the lines at the hotels, the desperation for generators, water, non perishable food. I, just like everyone else here, have close friends and family that have lost everything.”

 Immediately following the storms, The Salvation Army responded throughout the States of Alabama and Mississippi  area providing hot meals, hydration, and pastoral care to residents and first responders.  Seven mobile feeding units and over 40 staff and volunteers have provided hot meals, snacks and emotional and spiritual care to area residents.

 The Salvation Army is currently providing disaster assistance 16 locations in Alabama andthree areas affected by flooding in Mississippi.
