The Salvation Army Feeds Over 18,000 in Alabama and Mississippi

Jackson, MS - The Salvation Army’s disaster response in Alabama and Mississippi will continue on Sunday, May 1 in affected areas. Currently, forty feeding units and one shower trailer are actively serving in Mississippi and Alabama.

Mobile Feeding units from Alabama and Mississippi have now been reinforced with additional units from Florida and Georgia. Over18,000 meals were served by The Salvation Army.

“Our operations are now peaking at forty feeding units across much of north Mississippi and Alabama,” stated Bill Feist, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army’s ALM Division.  “We anticipate maintaining this elevated level of service for sometime as communities continue the recovery process.

EDS personnel are providing food, beverages, and emotional/spiritual care to storm victims in Alabama and Mississippi. Additional resources, such as clean-up kits, are being made available as needed in a number of areas. On Friday over 1900 comfort kits were distributed. The Salvation Army has deployed its four stall mobile shower trailer to Mathiston, MS.

Additionally, The Salvation Army is responding in other southern states.

Tennessee – EDS personnel are actively serving residents of Cleveland, Chattanooga, Murfreesboro, Dyersburg, Greenville, and Memphis.  Additional units are on standby throughout the state ready to respond as needed. 

The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services Warehouse and Command Center in Jackson is being utilized to manage the widespread response across Alabama and Mississippi.
