The Salvation Army Aids First Responders in Vilonia, Arkansas

Little Rock, AR - In response to the tornadoes that tore across Arkansas Monday evening, The Salvation Army Central Arkansas Area Command has dispatched its mobile canteen feeding unit to Vilonia to aid victims and first responders. “We are stocking the unit to serve about 1,000 meals, breakfast and lunch,” said Major Jim Taylor, Salvation Army Central Arkansas Area Commander.

Salvation Army Captain Ben Walters was on the scene by 9:00 PM to assess the need for relief supplies. “I arrived with three coolers of ice water. It’s all been depleted. I would estimate that there are about 150 first responders at work performing search-and-rescue operations and clearing debris.”

The Salvation Army’s Fort Smith Corps also has a mobile feeding unit en route to the scene to provide additional support. The Salvation Army Central Arkansas Area Command will coordinate additional relief services with the Pulaski County Office of Emergency Management.
