Colorado Springs, CO (August 12, 2013) – This past weekend, The Salvation Army provided 955 meals, 800 drinks and 100 snacks to first responders and debris removal volunteers after the Manitou Springs Flash Flood that struck Friday evening.

In addition, The Salvation Army’s emergency disaster services personnel provided meals to flood survivors at The Community Congregational Church where a Red Cross Evacuation Center has been established. The Salvation Army is providing additional relief from its RJ Montgomery Homeless Center located at 709 S. Sierra Madre Avenue to meet needs such as shelter, food and clothing.

This flooding impacted not only residents and small business owners but the vulnerable populations that live in the low-lying areas of Manitou Springs, including 15 homeless men and women who lost all of their possessions in just 48 hours.  The Salvation Army is currently working to meet the short-term recovery needs of these individuals and many more.

The Salvation Army El Paso County is always here to support the community and for as long as needed when disaster strikes, providing for the needs of those impacted.
