Warner Robins, GA (July 6, 2012) - A flash, a crash, and suddenly an apartment building on Leisure Road, Warner Robins, is in flames -- struck by lightning from a severe summer thunderstorm July 3, 2012. The fire started at approximately 7 PM and within minutes, Captain Gen Perry arrived on scene to learn that 16 families were now homeless.
Immediately Captain Perry pulled his team together, his wife Captain Pam Perry and Salvation Army Caseworker Vickie Turner-Ward. Upon assessing the situation on scene a plan of action was put into place to help those who needed us most. Captain Perry stated “these individuals were going to need clothing and basic supplies to get them through the night and the weekend as the apartment complex was able to provide victims with motel rooms for the evening until they found other apartments for them to move in to.”
Captain Pam Perry and Ms. Turner-Ward opened up the Salvation Army Family Store in Warner Robins to assist families. “We are so thankful that many wonderful individuals in this community donate to the Family store so we could provide clothing, shoes and suitcases to twenty-six men, women and children at a moment’s notice” Captain Pam Perry said. While Vickie and Mrs. Perry assisted families with needed essentials and prayer until midnight, Captain Gene Perry was on the fire scene with The Salvation Army Emergency Vehicle until 1:30 AM serving food and drinks to the firefighters and police personnel.About The Salvation Army
