Dallas, TX (July 29, 2011): - Salvation Army mobile feeding units (canteens) across Texas have been placed on standby and prepped to provide emergency assistance as Tropical Storm Don approaches the South Texas coastline. While this storm is not expected to have a major impact on Texas, The Salvation Army will be prepared to respond as necessary to the fourth named storm of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season.
“The Salvation Army has 43 mobile feeding units in locations throughout Texas that have been placed on standby status as we anticipate the arrival of Tropical Storm Don,” says Major Terry Israel, Divisional Secretary in Texas. “We want to assure the public that The Salvation Army stands ready to respond and provide physical, emotional and spiritual support in times of emergency.”
If contacted by local emergency management personnel, each feeding unit can be deployed within minutes and can serve first responders and storm victims steadily for a 24-hour period before restocking. In addition to the fleet of mobile feeding units, The Salvation Army in Texas can also call on a field kitchen, a communications unit and a command center should a large scale response be needed.
The Salvation Army continues to monitor the situation and stands ready to serve as needed.
