LUBBOCK, TX, (April 10, 2012) - The Salvation Army of Lubbock today responded to a two-alarm apartment fire that affected at least 38 individuals. Tonight, The Salvation Army is preparing to provide shelter to an estimated 20 individuals affected by the fire. The Salvation Army will also provide survivors with clothing vouchers redeemable at The Salvation Army Family Thrift Store.

Shortly after 10 AM this morning, The Salvation Army’s Disaster Alert Response Team (DART) arrived at the fire and has since provided 240 meals, 200 drinks and snacks to survivors and first responders.

“We see emergency response as a crucial component of our ministry here in Lubbock,” said Major Mike Morton, Corps Officer for The Salvation Army of Lubbock. “We are able to provide not just for the physical needs of the first responders and survivors, but also care for their emotional and spiritual needs. We will continue working with survivors long beyond the disaster to help them rebuild their lives.”

The Salvation Army is working with local businesses to provide survivors with furniture vouchers soon. The Salvation Army will continue to offer long-term sustainable care to survivors on a case by case basis as neccesary.
