West Liberty, KY (March 5, 2012) – Tornadoes leave an astounding path of destruction behind them, but what is even more astounding are the stories of survival from the storm. Appalachian Regional Hospital sits on a hill overlooking the town of West Liberty. While visiting the hospital today, Lisa Redding, Human Resource Director for the hospital, shared the amazing story of how the hospital was spared from significant damage. Redding said, “People may not believe this, but it was as if the hand of God spared our hospital.” She went on to explain how the path of the tornado came across the town in front of the hospital and as it approached them the tornado split in two and went around the hospital. It is quite clear that as you look around, there is absolute destruction all around them, yet the hospital still stands. As a result, they remain open and continue to see patients.
As The Salvation Army continues to meet the physical and spiritual needs of those who have been affected by the recent tornadoes, we are thankful for the opportunity to hear these amazing stories of survival. The Salvation Army has provided hundreds of hot meals, drinks, and snacks each day in the communities affected by these storms.
