Texas Division SATERN participates- NMCE & Ham-Com 2015

Dallas, TX - The Salvation Army - Texas Communications Unit recently returning from deployment at the National Mass Care Exercise held in Austin, Texas is on display in Irving, Texas at Ham-Com.  Ham-Com is held annually and attracts thousands of Amateur Radio enthusiasts from around the region. Information on the Ham-Com is available at: www.hamcom.org

The Texas Division SATERN Team also completed a 3 day communications test in conjunction with the National Mass Care Exercise held at Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas this week. Several modes and components of disaster communication were used to provide critical information to the Incident Command structure as well as outside agencies, Divisional, Territorial and National Headquarters.  Southern Territorial SATERN Coordinator Mr. Bill Feist was on hand and said, ““This was a very successful exercise.  SATERN in the Texas Division demonstrated its' capability to provide communications using a variety of different modes from the traditional voice modes to more modern digital and radio-supported email modes.  It provided learning opportunities for both long-time and new members and offered several opportunities to strengthen and enhance valuable relationships with other state and national emergency communications organizations."

About The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services:
“The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.” While every disaster is unique and creates its own special needs, the core of The Salvation Army's disaster program consists of several basic services. And while these services address many of the typical needs of a disaster survivor, Salvation Army disaster relief is also flexible. Our services are adapted to the specific needs of individuals and communities and scalable according to the magnitude of the disaster.

About The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army annually helps more than 30 million Americans overcome poverty, addiction, and economic hardships through a range of social services. By providing food for the hungry, emergency relief for disaster survivors, rehabilitation for those suffering from drug and alcohol abuse, and clothing and shelter for people in need, The Salvation Army is doing the most good at 7,600 centers of operation around the country. In the first-ever listing of “America’s Favorite Charities” by The Chronicle of Philanthropy, The Salvation Army ranked as the country’s largest privately funded, direct-service nonprofit.
