Amazing Love and Community

Goldsboro, N.C. (September 22, 2018) - “Look at the nations and watch – be utterly amazed” comes from Habakkuk 1:5.   As one looks at the community of Goldsboro, one can be utterly amazed at the love, support and coordinated efforts between Wayne County government officials, Wayne County Department of Social Service (DSS), Wayne County Health Department, community volunteers, essential emergency workers, local churches, airmen from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and The Salvation Army.

With volunteers and Goldsboro’s sense of community, The Salvation Army has provided over 7,000 meals to shelters, the emergency operations center and emergency responders as well as to residents in the community where neighborhoods were without power.  Many of these meals were prepared with the help of hundreds of volunteers.

Volunteers who helped two years ago during the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew have come back to serve in the wake of Hurricane Florence.   Whether it is helping to make hundreds of sandwiches, stepping in the kitchen to cook meals, washing dishes, or sweeping the floors, the generosity of the community has made it possible for The Salvation Army to serve on the front lines to those impacted by the storm.

Food, hydration and emotional and spiritual care continue to be provided to those affected by Hurricane Florence.  The community spirit is strong in Wayne County.   The Salvation Army is committed to the ever-growing relationships with all involved and is extremely appreciative of their support.

To ensure the needs continue to be met, financial assistance is the best way to help.
