Feeding and Hydration Underway in Iowa

(Cedar Rapids, Iowa) The Salvation Army has been hard at work aiding victims in the aftermath of straight line winds and an F1 tornado last night/early this morning in areas of Iowa. The Salvation Army was on the scene shortly after the storms struck and remain busy there today.

“Our Vinton and Walford, Iowa Service Extension units are the affected areas, just outside of the Cedar Rapids area. We are currently assisting in both areas with feeding and hydration,” said Sam Amick, Heartland Division Emergency Services Director.

Ironically, yesterday, the Cedar Rapids Salvation Army hosted an Emergency Disaster training, with the Vinton, Iowa Service Unit having 13 of the 34 in attendance and today they are assisting the Cedar Rapids EDS teams. Assistant EDS Director Benny Benedict was in Cedar Rapids to assist with the training yesterday, and is on site to assist and lead as needed.

An EDS canteen has been dispatched to the Walcott area and The Salvation Army is working alongside the Red Cross in Vinton.

“We will be on hand as long as we need to in order to assist the survivors in these affected areas,” said Amick.
