The Salvation Army of Jonesboro, Arkansas Distributed Meals  in Neighborhoods Affected by Tornadoes

Jonesboro, Arkansas (March 30, 2020) – After three tornadoes were reported in Arkansas on Saturday evening, with one landing in Jonesboro where significant damage occurred, The Salvation Army immediately went into emergency disaster response mode.

Two mobile feeding units have been deployed, one from Jonesboro and one from Mountain Home, Arkansas.  Food, hydration and emotional and spiritual care are being provided to both first responders and storm survivors. As of Sunday, 385 meals and 205 drinks, have been served.  42 Emotional and Spiritual Care contacts were made, and volunteers have provided 48 hours of service.

In addition to meeting the immediate needs in Jonesboro, the Arkansas-Oklahoma Division sent supplies from the Emergency Disaster Services warehouse.  On Sunday, Major Ben Lawrence, Divisional Secretary for the division as well as Laurie Fried, Divisional Emergency Disaster Services Director and volunteer, Kevin Fried, loaded tarps, MRE’s (Meals Ready to Eat), hygiene kits, gloves, masks and snacks to send to Jonesboro to assist with the response.  The supplies were scheduled to arrive late Sunday evening.
